DVC Instrumental Music Wants You!

The Diablo Valley College Instrumental Music Department would like everyone who plays an instrument (or played an instrument in high school) to take a look at our HUGE number of course offer.

The new daily schedule format allows for Wind Ensemble (Band) and Chamber Ensembles (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, and String) to meet at 8:00 a.m. on an alternating Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday basis respectively. This allows the greatest freedom for students who wish to continue their music studies while completing core requirements later in the day.

The DVC Philharmonic, under the direction of Maestro Owen Lee, will continue to meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:50.

The DVC Symphonic Band, under the direction of Maestro Monte Bairos, will continue to meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:50.

Performance opportunities are numerous. For a full schedule of upcoming events please see the DVC Music Performance Calendar and click on the performance of your choice for more information.

Please see all the class listings for the Music Department in the fall, 2008 course catalog. We offer jazz ensembles and jazz combos, beginning through advanced guitar lessons, basic and advanced music theory courses, beginning through advanced piano courses, a full range of vocal studies classes and ensembles, as well as classes in the histories of rock-and-roll, rhythm & blues, jazz, classical music and ethno-musicology.

Mark Steidel’s state-of-the-art Music Technology Center, the heart of the Music Industries Studies Program, is unmatched in the Bay Area. It utilizes the latest software and hardware to give you the best chance of getting your musical ideas from your head to your mp3 player. It also offers students a chance to broadcast worldwide on internet-radio KDVC, and, through its certificate program, transfer to prestigious colleges and universities for further study.
